12 DAYS 12 NIGHTS

The 12 Days 12 Nights Project takes place in seven different cities. The number twelve represents all time - always. Seven represents all space - everywhere.

The crystalline ground upon which each city is built, becomes the foundation for the artist and visitor alike; it is sand, in which visitors leave their footsteps, and the sand from which the twelve paintings emerge.

It is among the most frequently represented themes in Western art: the Twelve Labors of Hercules. In twelve days and twelve nights, twelve paintings are created, depicting the Herculean labors as informed by actual, topical events of the day.

Bernd Fasching never leaves the work rooms during this time; he can be contacted almost every minute of the twelve days and twelve nights. He "withdraws" only in public. Discussions with visitors are the starting point for his work on the canvas. Thus the millena-old, mythical information is integrated with the 24-hour Information Age.

For every phase, a special score is composed. The music is played all of the project's 288 hours. For example, the music for Zurich was composed by the group "Yello" (Boris Blank, Dieter Meier), the music for Jerusalem and New York and also for Vienna 2006 by Oliver Stummer.
