DAY ONE: MARCH 1, 2006

THE CAPTURE OF THE MAN-EATING MARES
FIVE MIRRORS

Garbage bags, dollar bill, sand, mixed media on canvas
100 x 200 cm

MYTHOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Hercules succeeded in capturing the man-eating mares rather quickly. Filled with pride at his rapid success, he left the captured horses to his friend Abderis. But Abderis was not strong enough to hold them. They trampled him to death and escaped. Thus, it became necessary for Hercules to capture the mares once again.

DAILY DIARY

“The moment of failure and frustration bears the greatest chance for self-reflection”, said one of the visitors.

Bernd Fasching started to scribe traces of a human face into the surface of the sand, fixing them step by step – like the process of incarnation, the image of a being eager to be created.

A little later someone brought magnifying mirrors into the gallery. Five of them were soon fixed on the canvas forming an integral part of the painting.
