Karl Lueger was the mayor of Vienna from 1897- 1910. He transformed the age old anti- Judaism of the Christian Church into modern anti – Semitism, groundwork for his winning the election.  His achievements as a local politician stood in bizarre contrast to his verbal hate tirades. 

In 1887 he founded the Social Christian Association. This association published the Viennese Peoples Newspaper. Voice of the Anti-Semites. For the federal state parliament the Social Christians formed the Central Anti-Semitic Committee, whose proclaimed goal it was to assemble all Christians.  Adolph Hitler, an admirer of Lueger’s, later strove to personally profit from this dangerous ambiguity.
